Marlins Aggressive, Where Is Mr. Cashman???
The Florida Marlins are moving into a new stadium next year and are pushing hard to make a big splash. It is reported that the Marlins have made offers to Jose Reyes and Mark Buehrle. They are currently courting Albert Pujols. My question is: where is Brian Cashman??? While the Yankees certainly would not be in on Reyes or Pujols, they certainly should be interested in Buehrle. But all we hear are platitudes about how he and Joe Girardi aren't comfortable with how the starting rotation presently looks.
In an interview, Cashman talked about possibly having to do what he did last year taking a flyer on low end free agents. While that worked out this year in the regular season do you really want to roll the dice again? Last year, Cashman sat by and waited because he wanted Cliff Lee and we know how that turned out. This year the Marlins are on the move with courting free agents. The Phillies have signed Jonathan Papelbon. In the meantime, we know nothing about what the Yankees are going to do other than hearing all kinds of happy talk from Cashman and Company. Maybe the Yankees are just waiting to see what the offers are for various free agent pitchers. Or maybe Cashman plans on doing what he did last year: bargain hunt and hope it works out. Interesting strategy for a team with the most financial resources that considers a successful season only if they win the World Series
